We thought it worked, but then the next day, the same behaviour was back. I've had Norton tech support uninstall and reinstall the product. Clicking on it does nothing and the Norton Security menu is populated mostly with the word, "null". The behaviour I see is that when I turn on my MacBook, the Norton icon bounces in the Dock and never disappears whilst the usual icon in the top right is often not there at all. This Mac download was checked by our antivirus and was rated as safe. Technical support has taken control of my computer four (or was it five) times already. (My most recent case ID 28119378). Once again, it started after upgrading to Mac OS El Capitan. Norton Security complains about not being protected, but when I choose "Fix Now" everything is OK within a few seconds and I have full functionality back.Obviously, this is not a fix, but it might be a work around we can use in the mean time (if it works for others).I have the same problem as everyone else. The size of the latest setup package available for download is 49.6 MB.I've had this for about 6 weeks, but today I have realised that if I click Norton Security > About Norton Security whilst the icon is bouncing in the Dock, when I dismiss the About window, the bouncing icon has gone and the Norton Security icon has appeared in the top right of the screen. For the majority of that time, they have been protected by either Norton Utilities or Norton AntiVirus. The only thing I can do is wait it out and then quit the program from the dock. Also, the icon that used to be in my window bar is gone. Eventually, it stops bouncing and the icon shows that the program is running, though no home window loads. Nothing they have done has helped at all.It appears that my computer does a scan every time I boot up, even though I don't want it to. Anyway, I assume that's what it's doing while the Norton icon bounces around in my dock for several minutes and takes away my ability to use my computer.
